S975 Certificate - Wrong figure quoted for Gross Interest
I recently requested from NW an S975 (2023-24) for a loyalty savings account that I have held with them for a number of years. This arrived in good time but the Gross Interest figure quoted was exactly double that which NW paid into the account in December 2023. No other interest was credited to this account during the tax year. To the best of my knowledge, all previous S975’s for this account have been correct.
I am obviously taking this up with NW as I have no wish to pay tax on interest that I haven’t received. [The fiscal drag caused by the freezing of the personal tax free allowance means that I am now caught in the net.]
Has anyone else had a similar doubling problem?
A quick search of the Forum showed that harz99 had a similar issue with NW back in 2020 but no discussion or follow up posted. see here
Just want to flag this up and suggest people check their S975s.
I will update this post as and when NW provide any explanation.

I eventually sussed the abbreviition because the full name is included in the link given by the OP, but for others who may be also wondering, NW is Nationwide, not Nat West1

Hi @Sussex_Green_Man, did you ever get an explanation from Nationwide on this?I have the exact same issue -
I requested a S975/Interest certificate for tax year 2023-24 for a Savings account I have with them that I opened years ago. The gross interest quoted on the certificate is exactly double the interest amount I actually received.1 -
Nationwide's online S975 generator - which they call "Interest and tax paid" is so broken as to be criminally complicit in tax avoidance! They only tell you how much interest was paid in the last complete financial year, so at the time of writing in February 2026, that's 2024-25. However, only the figures for accounts that are currently open are provided. So, if a regular saver was opened and closed in 2024-25 - which is normal usage - there would be no interest shown for that tax year later down the line. How HMRC lets Nationwide get away with this is astonishing, it must lead to tens of millions of pounds underdeclared.

You can request an interest certificate be posted to yourself through online banking (this includes previous years) you just need the account details. I've used this many times and works well, though you do have to wait on postal delivery.
Nationwide also have a demo on how to do this
Your interest is still reported it's just not available to straight up view on the Nationwide online banking pages.
Have no idea how the double interest cases came about though.
