247 Home Rescue won't repair boiler within cover, considering switching to BG instead
In a previous property I had a 15yr old boiler which required a couple of repairs in the time I lived there, and BG Homecare repaired it no problem. I know they have mixed reviews, but I never had any issues with them.
In a different house, I have 247 Home Rescue cover and they were just conducting an annual service. I mentioned the boiler had once made a strange noise and after looking into it, said it was the gas valve. It seems to be getting by okay, so the problem doesn't appear urgent, but this part will need replacing.
They phoned me and said because the boiler has only just passed 10 years since it was manufactured, they don't think it's worth repairing under their insurance, so I can pay £450 for them to fit the part or £3k for a new boiler, neither of which I'm keen on doing.
Either way, might as well cancel the policy if they're not going to cover the boiler. Not sure if I should get someone independent to fix it, but thought I could just take out a BG homecare policy, as they had no issues fixing an older boiler before. So I could just wait for 14 days after setting up the policy, schedule an annual service and tell them about it, hopefully they'll be able to fix it, but I potentially waste more money if they won't.
Anyone ever found themselves in a similar situation? Not sure if there might be any issues that I haven't considered.

Personally would recommend Homeserve over BG but thats my personal preference.
I know Homeserve do an inspection at the start of the policy to check everything is okay. Is anything is picked up its chargeable then after that any future issues are covered. I would imagine BG do the same so worth checkingFTB - April 20200 -
Why not ask a local independent instead of paying so much for insurance on a old boiler.Life in the slow lane0

Make & model of the boiler ?It is possible a replacement gas valve could be had for as little as £25. Or it might cost £250+. Then there is fitting on top - That will need to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer.Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Looking at the BG Homecare T&C's,you wouldn't be covered according to this clause as the fault already existed before you took out cover :
Pre-existing faults Your products don’t include cover for any faults or design faults that: • were already there when your boiler, appliance, system or electric vehicle charger was installed; • existed when you first took out the product;

A lot of these schemes (like most insurance) are just designed to take your money and not actually give you anything.
Particularly with these boiler covers, they're only interested when they can say it's out of support and then get a nice juicy fee to replace the entire thing.0
