Selling Vanguard Funds on IWeb?

Even HL will insist that you tell it the number of units to sell if the value is more than 90% of your holding to account for large daily unit price changes. IWeb will allow you to buy in £s for the same reasonAminatidi said:So if I try to sell a fund I don't appear to be able to tell IWeb to sell £10K worth I can only tell it how many units to sell.
I don't think I've ever seen that on other platforms it's always let you buy and sell by amount.I don't know how many units I want to sell but I know how much I want to sell in £ at the next valuation point.Divide your amount in £s by the unit price, making sure you account for pounds and/or pennies. You won't be far out

Yeah I didn't mean literally as in I can get a calculator out but up to this point every platform I've ever used has let me tell it I want to sell £10K of a fund and it would just work out how many units that is at the valuation point.
Point taken on HL though as now I think about it I'm guessing most of my past sales have been either all of it or a smaller percentage of it rather than 90% or most of it.
Just seems counter intuitive to try to estimate the number of units.0 -
Vanguard's own platform does what you want. iWeb is cheap but basic. You can get closer to a target amount (or target capital gain) by selling in stages.

Indeed, but that obviously incurs multiple transaction fees, potentially negating the benefits of that iterative approach!GeoffTF said:Vanguard's own platform does what you want. iWeb is cheap but basic. You can get closer to a target amount (or target capital gain) by selling in stages.0 -
Yes, that approach is more attractive when you are not paying transaction fees. Nonetheless, if you want to raise £100K, selling a targeted £90K and then targeting the shortfall, would divide the likely error a factor of ten, and could be worth another £5 to you. I have used that approach when filling my CGT allowance.eskbanker said:

Hah I moved to IWeb from Vanguard and HL as the pot is big enough that fees matter.GeoffTF said:Vanguard's own platform does what you want. iWeb is cheap but basic. You can get closer to a target amount (or target capital gain) by selling in stages.
It's not a showstopper for how often I trade, it was just a bit of a surprise to see there wasn't the option to sell a value 👍🏻
Plus I hate uneven numbers like when you find out you've sold £9972.57p worth but that's a different story.0
