Lap tops

Hope all are well
I may have asked this before so sorry in advance 
Have Acer Chrome book 14 CB3-431
and 1 time in a long time was not able to log on to Netflix web as said browsers needed an update or a system update am aware my Laptop is a few years old and the operating system does not give update any more 

Not sure what to do 

as am thinking of get a new laptop but need the advice on which one  and one not too expensive which can use for office and home stuff the normal 

And will last years and which I can connect the screen from the desktop and use separately to it as have a hard drive but had issue and thus lost all work on and not sure if should set it up or sell it as not sure what I would get for it once do factry reset ?
