Hi all.
Apologies in advance for the strange question!

I will be driving to Stansted airport from the East Midlands and using google maps, every option includes a Toll road. Even when I tick the option to avoid toll roads, the options are the same and include toll roads.
I have done a search and can't find any information on toll roads to Stansted and wondered if anyone here has made the same trip or can clarify why the options include toll roads and where on the route these are? Is google referring to the airport pick up charge?
Thanks

I've never driven to Standstead but the airport charge is almost certainly the correct answer. The way to make sure is to pick an end point just outside the airport and see of the toll road disappears.

There's a charge (£7 I think) for driving into the drop-off/pick-up zone, but there are no other toll roads around that area.

I think you can get to the car parks before the charge is payable, but this is to get to the terminals to drop people off.

The only toll road that I can think of is the M6 one, no other toll roads to get to Stansted Airport from Midlands. I hired a car from Stansted in March and drove up to Manchester and back so covered the route you're looking to drive.

    It was easy M6 > A14> M11

As others have said the charge at Stansted is the drop off/pick up

If you're just dropping off or picking up, and want to avoid the £7 charge, you can head for the mid stay parking. Before you get to the barrier there's a free drop-off/pick-up point, where passengers can get on a free shuttle bus to the terminal. Goes every 10 mins or so, and takes about 5 mins to get to the terminal.

Thanks everyone. I suspected that's what it will be.
