Nail Extensions

Hey guys,
I had nail extensions put on a few weeks ago, and absolutely loved them but paying a bomb for getting them put on was enough for me. They're at that "need-a-make-over" stage but as a skint student I can't afford infills and they charge to get them taken off too.
Just wanted to know, is there any home solutions to take off acrylic nail extensions (+ extensive amounts of glue!). They're already slightly peeling from edges.. I want my natural nails back for a while - for free!
Please let me know if any of you have got ideas or tried anything before.. xx

If you go to somewhere like salon services and buy a bottle of acetone, that'll do the trick. Just pour some acetone in a GLASS bowl and let the tips of your fingers sit in it for a while. It will take a while for the chemical to work through the acrylic but you will get there eventually. As they start to come off, try to resist peeling them off too much as it'll take off surface layers of the nail. You'll probably also find that once all the nails are off, there is a ridge in the nail near the cuticle, this'll grow out eventually.
hope that helps
I should add, I trained in windsor over five years ago how to be a nail tech

Brilliant! Will try that.. Does the ridge usually look real bad though?0

It entirely depends on whoever did your nails for you. The surface of your nail should only ever be scored with a nail file to roughen up the top layer to give the acrylic something to grip in to. If your nail tech used a little hand drill kit to do this to the surface, you'll find that the ridge is far more deep and sometimes bad techs will take off several whole layers of the nail sruface in doing this.
If you find that the ridge is only shallow what you can do is apply some nail moisturiser over a couple of days because your nails have gone through a hell of alot and it will generally do them some good. If you can't find nail moisturiser, I think asda do hand and nail cream in one, that'll do. so after a couple of days of applying the moistuiser give the nails a gentle clean to remove any cream you may have used that day or previous and apply coat or two of clear varnish. this will hide any damage/ridge untill it grows out.Debt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:

Thankyou! =o)
They were Chinese people who couldn't speak English that did mine. Was a very frustrating experience as in the past it's always been just as much a service than a product to me. (And they didn't seem to know what "ouch" meant!) She did it with the fancy-looking tools so probably took my whole damn nail off underneath! I'm sh!tting it, hehe.. xx0 -
Ive had a few sets and when taking them of i do as suggested but place the bowl of acetone in a bowl of warm water (as hot as you can stand) as this speed things up and i use cotton wool to wipe the gunk away but DONT PICK even though it is soooo tempting just wipe. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

Home Bargains have Nulon for less than a quid. It contains Shea Butter & Almond oil and is really good for nails. Whatever you use, put loads on then rubber gloves before washing up. The heat of the water helps the hand cream go in, so you get a hand and nail treatment whilst doing the washing up.0

Im a nail extension veteran, and this is what my technician advises - soak nail size piece of cotton wool in acetone, put onto the nail and wrap fingertip with tin foil. Leave until cooked, and they will dissolve into goo.
Apply cuticle oil, olive oil is fine too ,and buff.#44 £168.41/£20230 -
I've had my fingers of one hand in a nail varnish remover which supposedly had a 'high level of acetone in it and would work just as well'...the ingredients say acetone first, followed by aqua, glycerine and bitex or something along those lines.. so I assumed what the lady told me was true. But it's been about half an hour, and nothing at all seems to be happening...HELP!
