So just checked my tax code for new year and it’s dropped to 1256L from 1257L. Is this normal? I thought tax codes usually went the other direct?

Thats quite strange, thats a difference of £10 so £2 extra tax a year if you exceed the threshold. Have you notified HMRC of any changes?
A quick google suggests you aren't the only one."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
perhaps you have some unpaid tax from last year or savings interest or other income etc0

I had this issue a couple of weeks back, thought it might have sorted itself out by now. Unless this is effecting it https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6516903/why-would-my-paye-tax-just-double/p10

£2 in tax or £4 if you are higher rate. Is there a breakdown of the tax code showing a restriction for anything?n1guy said:

It's not the amount, it's the fact that coding has reduced and the OP doesn't know why. Is it a crime to ask a question?

You do realise the OP is the same person who put the "So what...."?TELLIT01 said:n1guy said:

And it wasn't meant as a So what but a So, what3 -
Your on line tax account or letter you receive(d) from HMRC will show the calculation of how the code is arrived at.
