I'm decluttering and aim to sell men's anoraks and two-piece men's suits.

Any suggesting on what size grey shipping envelopes would be best without having the clothes get crumpled from stuffing them in but won't cost a bomb in postage?

Buy a decent size to cover your requirements (fold something and see what maximum size you need ) then also check the size limits for whatever courier or service you plan to offer for postage.

So for instance if you have something really big it may have to go as a medium parcel if you use RM, but the same size bag could be taped smaller if other items fit the small parcel size limit.

Here's the Royal mail size guide - other couriers vary. With RM remember that for small parcels one side must be 16cms or less, which might preclude thick or padded jackets. I would also recommend you look at RM48 for postage, which gives an excellent compensation limit and you can even have it collected from your home for free.

I have seen people use hoover suction bags to reduce parcel size. Get some YouTube to watch on packing clothing is fairly easy packing it's listing sizes photos labels photograph everything some things are standard so easy when uk Euro and US sizes are present be ready for Questions.

Any clothing I would buy some clear interior bags with health and safety warning on off Ebay helps protect the items in shipping if external mailer bag is damaged. Scales a must and large letter small parcel guides.

You can also get bags which you roll to squeeze the air out, saves faffing around with a vacuum cleaner.

Don't think I've seen one surely rolling is down to the strength of the person doing it, size and if someone is helping them.
  • Those bags that you vacuum are great, cause they keep clothes fresh too.

If using eBay and you are near an inpost or EVRI locker look at sending via EVRI.
Their charges are based on weight, so as long as your parcel is under 1kg it costs about £2.94 and the parcel can be up 41x38x64cm.

By comparison, a royal mail second class large letter (maximum 35x25x2.5cm is £2.50 for a maximum of 750g.

A vacuum bag to shrink the package to <2.5cm, if possible will probably cost more than the 45p saving!

If between 1-2kg, RM small parcel or tracked 24/48 works out cheaper, (and with more insurance) but the max sizes are still much smaller than EVRI etc.

    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Yeah I don't know why vacuum bags came up for posting, they're way too expensive to be giving them away sending out sold clothes in them!

That is an excellent point and one I fear many of us overlooked. Save on postage but spend more on the vacuum bags!
