recently my free computer security software finished, so i'm looking for what free software would be best for my computer.
On my computer i currently have:
~Windows Security [antivirus/firewall/ransomware]
~Avast Driver Updater
Should i have extra software to protect my computer?
is there another type of software i should have?

Windows Defender is more than good enough and is free , you don't need avast either, any driver updates cone though windows update on the optional updates sub section
People also recommend running something like malwarebytes or equivalent every now and again too but that's all you need3 -
Just stick with windows & as above FREE version of Malwarebytes..

Defender is sufficient, to protect you i used to pay Norton for years but it really wasn't worth it especially when I was paying for a cardboard code and nothing else total rip off. Use Duck Duck Go to browse blocks cookies and spam0

I agree with the above, and would emphasise that you don't need a driver updater.Driver updaters, any driver updater, can cause problems.Just because there is a new version of a driver does not mean that it is suitable for your machine, often a driver update is targeted at some specific issue or specific machine architecture and will do nothing for your machine at all.
At worst updating a driver unnecessarily can 'break' your machine and even stop it from working.
(I see that many times on a software forum I moderate, where a user has used a driver updater that has caused such issues and then has to reinstall Windows to get it working properly, or working at all, again). If your machine is not showing any problems then the drivers that it has already are working fine, so don't try to fix something that isn't broken.2 -
I personally prefer Norton, never faced any problem you can even try eset anti virus kit.0

As people have put, Microsoft Defender and periodically run the free version of Malwarebytes. Norton is just a horribly inefficient application with a load of bloatware in it, there are some other free AV applications which are good, but for the home user Defender is great.
On the drivers side, I can't agree with Newcad in not updating drivers. Whilst you may not "see" the benefits of updating drivers, there could well be security fixes in them that are extremely important.
I agree you shouldn't be going to 3rd party sites (or getting their downloaders) to get the updates, but periodically going to the manufacturers site where they will either have a utility or guided method to identify your machine and which updates apply to it is absolutely a good thing to be doing. Things like BIOS and processor chipset updates are of particular importance to apply. Even if you do this as an annual exercise it is better than not doing it.2
