I went to see the landlord again today as my cold is going and my smell has come back and it still smells of poo. Its so digrading living like this. She was all im soo sorry but we have been ill and I promise to have it done after the new year. Its ok for her, she lives in a big house in a nice area. She would never allow her kids to live in a place like this, stinking of poo. I said to her it was making my son vomit and I cannot afford to be eating out all the time as the smell is spreading. My son has flu now so he cant smell but he was still sick yesterday. I hate living like this, so much for entering a happy new year for me. I rang envoiremental health again but there was no answer apart from answer machine. I told them that my case worker from shelter homeless told me to get them out here but I have heard nothing back. MAybe its coz of the new year but Im happy to have a cold for as long as possible so I cannot smell the vile smell in here.
Its really not fair, maybe I should not of paid her rent. Her husband moaned that he wants housing benefit to pay him directly, money is money and im not the type of landlord thats going to run away, his shop is above me and he has keys. I dont know what else I can do , I have plug ins, air freshner but u can still smell it. Why are some ppl heartless like this I dont know.0 -
I wonder if a previous disgruntled tenant put some rotting fish (or worse!) behind the washing machine?
Can you seal around the gap that the smell is coming from as a temporary measure?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks silvercar but there is no fish behind the washing machine. The washing machine is mine, there use to be an old washine machine which we moved and put mine. We covered one of the pipes but its not doing the trick, it needs a proper cap. If I knew where to get one I would but I cant even move the washing machine and my brothers working so he cant even come over. Im going to write a letter tonight and put it through the shops letter box as they are shut today.
Hopefully I will hear from envoiremental health this week if Im lucky. If not I will keep ringing them till they get fed up with me.0 -
From what you've writen, there is an open pipe to the sewerage system, and the smell is coming up from that. If you you can find out where this is, and can get acess to it, you may be able to do a temporary solution yourself until it can be fixed properly.
Get as thick a piece of plastic that you can, even a supermarket carrier bag would do. Make sure there are no holes in it (even use double or treble thickness) and then get an elastic band and put the bag it over the pipe, then roll the elastic band down the side of the pipe so it holds the plastic bag in place as a cap over the end of the pipe.
(And if your area is anything like mine, the postment are always dropping red rubber bands on the pavement. There are generally about 2 every hundred yards round here! These would do nicely)I can spell - but I can't type0
