Credit Checks

Options
Yes, Ive got bad credit.

One year of my life I went crazy on the plastic and then had a change of circumstances, which now means although all Im ever doing is paying, I have the worst credit rating.

Why does the government not step in to help us???

In terms of anything monetary Im worse than a prisoner, I cant apply for a house, rental, telephone, its amazing the number of day to day things I am excluded from.

I own nothing.

Theres also the factor of companies not seeing you as profit making enough. Being poor, you learn to be very skilled with money.

A profit making organisation should not determine whether a person can live a good quality of life or not.
Considering the homeless register and number of people going to be affected with negative equity, isnt it about time the Government stepped in to monitor, privatise or legislate the credit rating industry?

erm, because it's your own fault so why should the government help you? You got yourself into this mess by your own means, so you have to get yourself out of it.

The government regulate the credit industry in one respect by legislating to make credit unavailable to those under 18. I think that past this age we are all adults, and could surely self regulate?

Why should the goverment step in if you hve got yourelf in a mess of your own making? The industry is regulated by the consumer credit act 1974 and in as much as if you dont handle your credit properly then you dont get any more!

Not sticking up for the Op but we dont know what circumstances happened that made her/him have a yr of spending, we all do crazy things sometimes.

Yes I know were adults and can say no thank you I dont need I dont want that credit card, but to a person who spends, could be facing the same addiction as a drinker to drink, a smoker who smokes - there treatment is on the NHS something we all credit to.

I personally feel that once a person has bad credit then a lot of companies send offers throu 50% APR credit card, they target the vulnerable, and maybe they need reigning in a bit x

I agree that MH problems may have an impact on a person's spending, but this is not implied by the OP.

If the OP (or anybody that finds themselves in this position) does have MH problems, then hopefully they will be able to source help through the NHS. However, this will still not help lower the debt that they already have x

  • did you need any of the stuff you bought on the plastic? NO!! So you reap what you sow - why should the rest of us (yes that's where the government gets it's money) bail you out?

I am a bit confused .. on one hand you seem to want the government to do something while on the other hand complain that you can not dig a hole even bigger for yourself (because you are 'excluded' from things). Is that not what responsible institutions should do .. stop lending to people who can not afford to pay them back or in the past have failed to pay them back?

Years ago when you wanted a loan you had to don your best suit to make yourself look as rich as possible and go cap in hand to a money lender. In the early 80's this was seen as discriminatory which forced the poorest into the arms of loan sharks ... so it was made easier for every adult to get credit. Do we really want to return to a system whereby only a select few while be offered credit?
