Death in service payments to Dependants

I hope someone can help.

My fiancè died whilst working for TfL back in 2017. He did not complete an Expression of Wish Form but after I provided evidence that I and my son were financially dependent upon my fiancè at the time of his death, the Trust Fund concluded we were entitled to monthly "pension payments".

My question is, are these monthly payments classed as means-tested income in relation to claiming benefits or do they come under voluntary payments as they are provided by a Trust? E.g. do not need to be declared.

I have scoured the Internet searching for clarity on this issue, without success.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

It is classed as income that needs to be declared.

Definitely income that needs declaring. As it is unearned income there will unfortunately be a pound for pound deduction from any means tested benefits you qualify for.

Was there no lump sum death in service payment too?
