Back to the first issue, seems a bit much, I can imagine very little percent of the population declares every GP visit in the last 2 years before their trips. That said I suspect a similarly small percentage ends up actually claiming..
Many people foolishly decide to filter what they declare based on what they think the insurer will consider important but unless you have a claim for a medical emergency insurers won't pay for medical reports etc to detect the false declarations
  • Whilst not wishing to cause you further stress. Most airlines insist that if you have had an operation or treatment you must have a doctors letter saying you are fit to travel and this must be produced to the airline.
Also some insurance companies/doctors say you cannot fly until after 6 weeks after the operation.

We have discharge notes that OK us to fly so hopefully that will be ok. The doctor did ask us if we wanted a letter for the airline but do we even need to go through the process of declaring the surgery to the airline? Nightmare..
  • If it was me I would want to get home as soon as possible in case of further problems arising. I don’t know what I would do in relation to the letter.Obviously your choice.Best of luck.
  • Thanks @spaexpress15.

So I’ve called AXA a few times and they honestly seem pretty positive they’re just waiting for my GP to send over the medical records. They have my flight ticket already, its possible they haven’t assessed it yet or the right person (wrong person in my case) hasn’t seen it yet but I’m just praying it will be fine at this point. I think the fact that it was a multi destination trip and they’ve segmented the policy into multiple policies based on the dates of the transfers to those destinations is maybe mudding the waters in a positive way for me.

My wife is from the US and could possibly qualify for emergency assistance from the government on this, her family is advising her to apply for the emergency assistance. I know that when a person has more than 1 insurance policy the costs are meant to be spread across those insurance companies. Also due to the nature of the situation both insurances in this context are not exactly compatible (one is travel and one is low income residential aid). Is it smart for us to apply for this emergency assistance just as a back up?

Absolutely do the back up thing. I think sooner or later Axa are going to pick up the discrepancy. All you have been dealing with are the front line staff, not any 'decision makers'

Have you actually told them yet that you failed to disclose medical information?    If not, then the cheery call centre worker wouldn't be aware of the potential issues.

  • If it was me I would be on the next flight home to prevent any problems whilst in the US even though you wife is from the US. A difficult decision I know but I would feel happier about it whilst in this country. If AXA play up how does it affect your return journey.
  • Thanks for all the help here guys just as an FYI - we ending up going through the government assistance route and all was solved eventually.
