Syncing wont free up any space because you'll have the same photos on each.

Best thing to do is get yourself a pair of external hard drives and move the photos to both
That way you free up space and have back ups of your photos
Ideally one should be kept in a fireproof safe and one off site like your car but I've always considered the fireproof safe a bit ott as fires are very rare and you have the one off site anyway1 -
Google Photos doesn't work like Apple Photos? With the later when the phone is getting full it offloads the photos to iCloud and only keeps a thumbnail on the phone and then downloads the full image if/when required.PHK said:Syncing wont free up any space because you'll have the same photos on each.1 -
That is not a backup, that is moving them from one location (cloud storage) to another location (physical drive in one's possession). That is not a backup and is also introducing a single point of failure.cerebus said:Best thing to do is get yourself a pair of external hard drives and move the photos to both

In case you read it wrong again. I said a pair of external hard drives (that's two) and move your photos to both , one is the primary and one is the back up (you do identical back ups to both on a regular basis)
And you clearly didn't bother to read the rest of my post, so here it is. I also said ideally you store one in a fireproof safe and one off site (like your car)
Please explain how that is not a back up and how that is introducing a single point of failure0
