Don't do anything. If you receive any snail mail letters then come back for further advice. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

Wow Grumpelstilskin, Quick reply! So, as before, just do nothing and wait for their next move? The bloke who knocked certainly acknowledged knows that I/we were not going to discuss anything with them and think got the message that they can go and whistle. Is this what we are hoping for, and that they realise it is useless for them to keep using manpower geting nowhere?Cheers, again.0

Yes chances are you won't hear anything else, but just open any letters in case they do get in touch. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

Cheers again, Grumpelstiltskin. Will leave matter now until, and if, we hear anything else. Hopefully they now realise they will get nowhere and that we know they are just trying their luck!Thank you.0

No, it isn`t, separate letters for separate situations.spidermanmsy said:Just one point - Is the 'prove it' letter the same as the 'statute barred' letter? And could somebody supply a link in the case that I may have to send this on behalf of my wife. (I know she says it isn't worrying her but I know her a little better than she thinks!).Again, many thanks for all your help and advice here!
The "provit letter" is sent in response to a letter asking you to pay a debt, whether you recognise it or not.
You send the provit in order to obtain more information, it is carefully worded so as not to acknowledge the debt.
It can be found in the sticky post at the top of this forum, but for your convenience, the link is here -
Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter — MoneySavingExpert Forum
You only send the statute barred letter when you are certain you have not acknowledged the debt by payment or in writing in the 6 years since it defaulted.
Sending this at an inappropriate time could re-start the limitation clock and mess up your day, so don`t send this unless you are 100% certain of your facts.
They will continue collection activity until/unless you send the Provit letter and get more information from them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi Sourcrates, So am getting little confused in advice from Grumpelstiltskin and your above post!Is it OK if matter is left as is and then if any further letters received will then send the 'prove it' letter. What was confusing me about sending this letter was part 'when you know nothing about the debt'! So, even if there is some recall of debt from all those years ago, still send this letter? There has never been any letters from either Resolvecall or Intrum whilst we have been at this address for past 15 years. I have also checked my wifes credit report and there are no ccj's or such like. No payments have been made to anybody, company, bank etc. since been at this address. However, still hold off from sending 'statute barred' letter at the moment?Apologise for having to reconfirm a number of points, as you say, I don't want to mess anything up.Thank you so much again for your explaining of letters and any further answers/sdvice.0

Apologies for any confusion, collection activity will not cease just because you refused to engage with Resolvecall.
They will report back to their client that they have had no results from their contact with you, and likely hand the account back to Intrum.
So you may still get contact from Intrum, if they do write to you again (think Grumpelstiltskin may not have been aware that they had written previously) then send the Provit letter.
They won`t just give up, as debt purchasers, they go through a collection process until there is a resolution of some kind, unlike a debt collector, such as Resolvecall, who would just return the account to the client, as they are the client, they will continue with this.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. The prove-it letter is for when you know nothing about the debt or
Your position is that you know nothing about the debt
And that should always be your starting position. It is not your responsibility to tell them what this is. It is their responsibility to explain and evidence why you owe them money.
Until they make a written allegation, they just get ignored. Then the prove-it0 -
Many thanks Sourcrates and Fatbelly. Well, 'prove it' letter will have to wait. Have couple more pressing admin matters to deal with, timewise. Not debt related. Prefer to deal with one matter at a time, full concentration. Multitasking is not my strong point, am a bloke, afterall!
However, can afford to put on back-burner for moment and get other matters further along. Will return when (if!) get further correspondence from these time wasters.
Again, thank you for your posts.1
