Letter from Intrum/Resolvecall - Nothing from them over 15 years!

Hi, Been a while since needed advice/thought on subject but hope all is good with everyone!

Received letter from above regarding what appears to be debt of £3k relating to mbna account. No further information is given in either letter from Intrum nor the enclosed Resolvecall letter. No date of original debt, when it was allegedly taken out, or any account numbers. (I have read the 3 or 4 last threads from posters who have also received letters of this type in past couple of months).

The letter is addressed to my wife but I can confirm we have not had any correspondence from these people since moving 15 years ago, and understand, even if there was any debt, this is now statute barred. I have this morning checked my wifes credit report and it says no ccj's and no hard/soft searches by anybody.

Resolvecall mention that if no contact is with them made a personal visit will be made by one of their reps to our home. Do I have the right of not telling them who I am/we are and demand they leave our front door. Any further contact either written or in person will be considered harassment?

Eitherway, is there any further information I can give here in asking your members for advice on the matter?

Many thanks for any help/advice in reply.

There's been quite a few posts about them today so I expect they've really revved up their printer to send out all sorts of letters.

    Old debt — MoneySavingExpert Forum

    So basically

    • ask them to send a prove it letter (by post only)
    • don't admit to ever having a debt
    • if they persist tell them to stop harassing you
    • if anyone knocks on the door don't let them in and refer to the step above.  Keep your phone ready to film any unpleasantness.

  • Hi Brie, Many thanks for replying. At moment reluctant to send any sort of reply as this would acknowledge letter. Letter was dated 2nd April so already 7 days gone & no visit, as 'threatened' in letter.
I know just making contact is no admission of any debt, if there is, but at moment just hoping no further contact from them. Is it safe to do this & then if any visit or further correspondence will then send prove it letter? If anybody turns up, will not give name or confirm who lives here & demand he leave our front door?
Many thanks, and for any additional advice from members. Take care.

Intrum have recently bought a new portfolio of bulk debts and are using Resolvecall as the battering ram.

As said in other posts on this company, collection agents can do nothing, if they get annoying, send provit letter to Intrum.

  • Hi Spidermanmsy,

Am in exact same position, posted up on Monday - my debt is MBNA /19 years old. I did send Intrum the standard Statute Barred letter but havent engaged with Resolvecall in any way, after sound advice from Sourcrates. I'm waiting to see what response I get from Intrum but hate the thought of RC just showing up at my door. Was tempted to send a removal of implied right of access letter but left it as I think they have to write to make 'appointment' first?

Also found this: The FCA says in CONC 7.15.9 “A firm must identify for prospective purchasers of debts arising under credit agreements or consumer hire agreements or P2P agreements those debts which it knows or ought reasonably to know are statute barred, so as to avoid a firm taking inappropriate action against customers in relation to such debts.”
  • Hi stressed carer and others who have added advice and help. We'll that letter we/my wife received as I say was dared 2nd. Now 11th and definitely over week passed.

Without going back to letter don't know if says 'if no contact made within week then we will send a rep round' and if they do, will do as I say above, no info, no names, no admission who lives here or of debt. May also advise any further personal ccontact will be regarded as harassment. I will then have to follow it up with the prove it letter.

And yes, aware that some have received letter saying last contact made was a payment off the debt from wifes/mine account there acknowledging debt etc. This will complete and utter 🦬💩 and absolutely unable to prove anything further than they have already sent in first 2 letters together.

Will update as go along. Stressed carer, and others, hope these cowboys leave well alone knowing that we here know how to handle and that we owe nothing as statute barred etc. Take it easy, all.

The timescale quoted is meaningless and just designed to encourage you to make contact.

That is the purpose of all their correspondence, they just want you to call them so you can be persuaded to part with your cash.

  • No chance of us making contact, sourcrates. Had to laugh yesterday morning as we got unexpected knock at door! My wife answered as I had just come out of shower. Not knowing who it was,  I was ready to pounce making way up hall to front door in just jeans!
It was actually police officers making enquiries regarding burglary n different area but known apparently where we live?!
Got a couple of surprised looks.
So nothing further still, and will come back if anything more from them. Like to know how others being bothered by these scrotes trying their luck!
  • Ah well, here we are again! Although some weeks after making above posts got a knock this morning by single bloke. He was from Resolvecall!
My wife answered door before I could get there. I heard him as her to confirm her name which she did! I got to the door before any further info asked/confirmed!
I asked where he was from? I told him we're not talking to him and asked him to leave. He said fine, but left a card with just reference number and client reference!
Could somebody advise as to our position now, please, os is it exactly same as before? Do nothing?
Many thanks for further help and advice.

  • Just one point - Is the 'prove it' letter the same as the 'statute barred' letter? And could somebody supply a link in the case that I may have to send this on behalf of my wife. (I know she says it isn't worrying her but I know her a little better than she thinks!).

Again, many thanks for all your help and advice here!
