Extra costs on contents insurance claim for carpets

We are in the process of getting the carpet on our stairs changed after accidentally dropping a can of varnish down it. We had accidental cover under our home insurance. The insurance sent out an inspector & we chose a similar carpet. The inspector said that the existing underlay would be used which is fine & didn’t mention anything else. The carpet was ordered & the company called to arrange fitting & said that we would need to ensure that the old carpet is removed prior to fitting. Does this sound right? The carpet fitters will only remove & dispose of the old carpet if we pay them £119. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks

Commercial waste disposal costs money these days. No taking it down the tip for free.1
