Value of porcelain and china

Hello

Good afternoon, are there any sites I could get porcelain or china valued without any expense.  Sadly my mum passed a year ago, and she has  a couple of ornamental bells and a vase. I would like to find out if they are of any value.

Thank you

I'd look at 'sold' eBay listings to see what they might sell for.

Have you checked if there are any maker name stamped on the bottom?  That'd be the first step.

My MiL had a lot of what she considered "very valuable" items which sadly were not.  I've checked them against what's on sale on ebay and similar and considered the hassle of me selling versus what I possibly might get (£2-3 each?) and so am just donating them to a charity shop where hopefully they will get good value.

The problem of course is that MiL bought things believing that they would increase in value (think of the collector plates sold via Radio Times etc) when of course they haven't.  Some items are similar to valuable china items (imitation Royal Worcester) and so while pretty won't fetch anything.   And hundreds of china thimbles....

Also valuing via a website is difficult as there's only pictures to go by.  You might do better going to a local auction house when they have a valuation day.  If you have something of value they will be fairly quick to try to get you to include it in their auctions, if not I'm sure they'll suggest the charity shop route.

Sorry for your loss - maybe there's something that you like that you would want to keep for yourself or other family members as keepsakes??

Easy live auctions is a good site as it gives you the name of auction houses  iin UK that may be near you and you can search for similar items for sale very easily Some auction houses  will list sold prices but thers don't. Unless your mother collected well from antique shops, auctions or was very knowledgible it is unlikely that everyday collectables have any discernable value

Do a reverse image search on eBay, that shows similar items and if it turns up anything g you can follow the links to the other sites.

However , China, glass etc was my main selling area but the market started dying a few years back and now I rarely bother unless it is certain makers and patterns I often pay £10 or so for vintage China, take out the 2 or 3 bits I want and charity shop the rest.

A relative passed away recently and we are clearing out, auctioneer valued an entire set of Royal Worcester at £50, look at other auctioneers that seems about right. Not more than £1 an item really.

I doubt your ornaments are worth anything much, but look for the brand stamp and search online for auctioneers or on eBay sold items.

For any china, you could look at sites such as Tablewhere? and China Search to see what they are selling similar for.  These companies will buy stock of available products also but I'd imagine the price is volatile.

For the ornamental bells, there was a TV programme in the past few days (literally) where they were clearing out a property and the deceased had been a collector or china bells and they had a specialist on who valued everything.  You could go back through last week's TV listings and see if the programme remains available on catch up.

I wouldn't recommend the various china single piece sellers they ask daft money for single items - even some of the dinner plates my son used at uni (early  Doulton) were  being sold at around £30 a plate - when I bought an entire dinner set at auction for £10 .When I tried to sell the plates to them having sorted out the absolutely perfect ones, one site offered me 25p a plate.

It really is best to check actual real time private sales, and realistically ebay completed/sold listings are best for that.
