Just Eat refuse to refund

Hi there, I ordered a takeaway from McDonald's via Just Eat on Friday. When the app alerted me it had been delivered, I opened my door to find one small bag, nowhere near large enough for my whole order, sitting on my doormat with no delivery man in sight (this is common practice, I live in a block of flats). Sure enough, the bag only contained a McFlurry, a brownie and (for once!) the dips I'd ordered. There was absolutely none of the hot food.

I had hungry mouths to feed so placed a second order on Just Eat to another place (with no issues whatsoever). Afterwards, I requested a refund from JE for the £20 worth of food missing from the first order and they rejected my claim! I emailed them back citing my second food order, almost immediately after the first, as "proof" that I still needed food as the first one hadn't arrived. They said that their rejection of my claim is in line with their policies, end of. They are now ignoring my emails. Granted, I have made small, regular claims as when placing grocery orders there's ALWAYS things missing so think I may now be "blacklisted" but surely if I haven't received something I've paid for, I'm entitled to my money back, once or a hundred times?

JE deliveries are crucial to me as I'm disabled but this has really scunnered me as I can't afford to just lose £20 through their shoddy service (I was kinda hoping the refund would cover the second takeaway I ordered, which, in hindsight, was a big mistake). Is there anything I can do? TIA x

Chargeback from your bank or card provider, I would think.

You may have to accept that your account gets closed, so weigh up the alternative provision and whether the £20 is worth the loss of the account.

It is strange that some have frequent Just Eat / UberEats missing items. From my experience I've never had an issue - perhaps it's simply down to 'pinchy' local delivery agents or inept restaurant workers.

In terms of buying groceries, I'd always prefer to go directly to the store if possible. For example, I'm a coop member, have a reasonably sized store nearby, and am often given free delivery vouchers. This means the price I pay is quite a lot lower than the same order put through deliveroo etc. You often find stores delivering through the delivery apps can also be ordered from directly.

I think I know the thread you're referring to. That guy was certainly an... interesting sort.

Thank you, I'll speak to my bank about this. I wasn't sure if this was something I could do for a relatively small amount. x

Thank you, I'll look into this. I order directly from the store for my "big shop" but have been using Just Eat for smaller top-up orders. Thanks again. x

I thought I had to go through Just Eat as previously when I've contacted stores directly they say they can't help and to contact Just Eat. So frustrating. x

This is what I do. I have a Tesco delivery saver subscription for the weekly biggies, but often find the coop gives me a free delivery voucher which I can then use for topup deliveries. It's usually a deliveroo driver who shows up with the shopping, it's just so much cheaper than deliveroo!
