    KPIs - Key Performance Indicators
Often used in some employment areas as part of a regular appraisal process

So, you have done the training but they are saying you are not doing your work to the required standard?
  • The company are giving you training to help you do your job to the required standard (this might well mean more responsibility than when you first start, even for the same money.)
If you're not meeting performance levels, you probably need more supervision and/or training. If after that you're still not reaching KPIs, your manager will want to know why and will want to take steps to resolve your underperformance.

They're not going to give you more money if you're falling short of what they expect.

When you are exceeding KPIs, discussing a pay rise or bonus at your appraisal would be perfectly reasonable.

Until that time, I would concentrate on being a better worker.
If after training, you can't work at the required level, I'd say you're more likely to lose your job than get a pay rise...

    what is the  question

asking you  to  be trained   - they can ask, they  can force   depending on what it says in your  job  description,  it comes down to tests of reasonableness, and if you  refused would your current job be able to sustain your  role  at it;s current hours  if they  brought someone  else in who was willing and capable to do  the  additional duties  as well

getting paid at a higher  rate once you are you are competent  in a role is  normal and legal - if you are not  making the baseline KPIs  in the new tasks you   could find yourself  facing capability  proceedings if you pushed the point on the higher rate of pay , where  if you  are  able to do  but  not fully competenent in the  higher  graded role  on your  current  pay. there are plenty of roles where  trainees are paid a lesser rate ,  including at time trainness  being paid less than  support staff   who had a narrower skill set ...

    'key performance indicators'

where work can be measured   KPIs are used to assess individual perofmance against a  baseline and 'ideal' standards  for time, accuracy ,  failure rates etc

it  sounds like the OP has  learnt the new skills but   cannot as yet , despite a period of time   meet the baseline 'competenet' KPIs  for the role  , which is the trigger  for the Skills payment

If there's an issue with meeting KPIs after what they consider a reasonable period I'd be asking for more training.

I was taken on in a call centre to do a certain role no proble  meeting the kpis for that role however they then upskilled me to do another role as well as currebt role it was never discussed just told to do it and was never told that the upskill payment would be made only if i meet the kpis, however the kpis are a joke as you are expected to do the previous work u was signed up for and the new role which is quite in depth in certain time scales eg each call to last less then 5 minutes this is fine with certain calls but often times you will have a in depth issues that judt cannot be solved in 5 minutes my issue is im doing the extra work as well as my current role and still being told its not meeting the kpis however no further action is happening they judt keep letting me dp it but not paying the upskill why should i do the work for free?

Is everyone else failing the KPI's and not getting paid for the enhanced role?

If they are meeting the KPI's then they are not a joke. You have a choice of working to meet the KPI's and get the payment, ask to return to the original role or find another job.

If no one is meeting the KPI's then you could be right in they are taking people for a ride. Same options apply with more emphasis on the last two in that case.
  •  As 400ixl writes unless all your colleagues are failing then they are achievable, you need to discuss what can be done by you and by the company to help you achieve the KPI's
