They really do work as they say, but be honest about the description and still expect to be knocked down a couple of hundred. You have the part ex prices so you have a good idea of the sort of price to look for.

Try a few of them including local 'we buy your car' places to get an idea of price, they can vary considerably, I eventually sold mine through Autotrader direct sell - an auction company came, agreed the value, paid the money and took it away. Very simple. There isn't usually a fee if you don't agree the value.
Thanks. I was thinking through those sites I could maybe get a reputable dealership and bank transfer money etc will be safer. For me it would be too much to try and put it on autotrader as a private sale. I was also a little confused as to how it all works with V5 and any other documents I’d need to give.

It feels like all the ones I’ve been quoted for after my back box fell are making big excuses to drop the price to more than 1k!
Most of them transfer the money and sort the V5 online before taking the car. It's just down to you to cancel or swap the insurance.

Manheim auctions operates it for Autotrader instant sell. They sorted it all on my drive and sent a couple of guys to pick the car up the next day.

I think they like cars that are fairly easy and quick to sell on so needing a back box is probably less attractive to them.
Good to know all that gets sorted easily. Although my fear would also be if the buyer tries to haggle and it ends up being a no deal. I’ve read putting a post back up on carwow is a lot harder.

Agree with others, get the back box sorted before unless it's absolutely not worth it.

We sold a car through Motorway last summer. You end up doing a fair amount of work particularly getting all the pictures right for their site as they need virtually every angle inside and out. Once that's sorted, the actual sale is pretty straight forward as dealers bid for the car and the highest bidder gets it. Ours was picked up by a driver who had come on the train, did a test drive, spoke to his buyer and the money was transferred there and then as they were happy with the price etc. Would likely have got more had I sold it privately but far less hassle. Probably a bit more than WBAC.
Similar experience to me. You have to understand that Motorway has a specific day that they will tell you, when the car is open to auction bidding. Until that day, their price is an estimate on what it will get on the auction day. Once the auction has finished they phone you to see if you accept the final price. I still got knocked down £250 when it came to collection and I would have rejected at that point had they not been higher than WBAC.
If you don’t accept the final bid would you just keep your car and not pay any fees? WBAC seems to knock money off what you’ve already mentioned online for the scratches etc. which puts me off.

Did you just arrange the V5 and transfer doc on the day or before?

I have used a few online and in-person car buying services and to date I have been satisfied with them all.

Like any other car sale there is always an element of negotiation during the process. It is therefore very important to describe your car accurately to help minimise this.

Prices vary significantly between different buying services at any time too. So it is worth 'shopping around' each time you sell. Ultimately you can always refuse any offer you are unhappy with.

Are there any you particularly liked or had a better experience with? I’ve read motorway gives you the list of dealerships that’s made a bid whereas carwow doesn’t tell you who the bidders are. Maybe I’m in the wrong mindset but I’d assume bigger dealerships would not try to haggle as much as smaller ones?

Throwing another name in the ring, I sold my 2019 Ford Focus recently to Big Motoring World -https://bigwantsyourcar.com/. Unlike Carwow, Cinch and Motorway, they ask for photos of the car before sending you a quote, so they can see the car's condition, and they still quoted me over £1k more than the others. Car was collected, appraised on the spot to check it was in line with the photos I sent, and they ensured my money was in the bank before they took the car away. Overall a very straightforward arrangement without the need to deal with bidders etc.

I used Cazoo  a few months ago…they offered 1.2 k more than part ex.  They didn’t knock anything off when I took the car to them,  Indy was in my account 15 mins after arriving at their depot

You are over thinking it quite a bit. Fill in the online forms for as many of the car buying sites as you wish, including Motorway, WBAC, etc. to get quotes.

Rule out any that are around the part ex price as you might as well part ex. If they really don't want the car, you will get a low offer. Any that are significantly above, arrange contact with, bearing in mind they'll probably knock you down a couple of hundred.

It's their daily business, they have the paperwork and collection service off to a tee. It's probably a lot quicker and simpler than it is to explain, but if you're really not comfortable with it then just part ex.

Had a great experience with Flip It Today last time round. The price was agreed after I sent a set of photo's, they turned up on time and the money was in my bank before they left with the car.

It turned out they were run by a nearby auction house so that may have had an impact on the experience though.

sadly checked and they are only England based. But that is good no need to deal with bidders.
