Mrs B has an apple i phone SE - all updates are current hopefully. Running IOS 17.3.1 (17.4.1 available tonight, it says)
On the settings icon it has a red dot with '1' on it
Looking at it further it says this

but when we press on the red 1, it goes to this

but the 'star' next to 'continue' just spins for maybe ten seconds but then stops and nothing happens.

Any bright ideas?
Ain't broke - don't fix??

Is it fully charged and plugged in ?

Is there enough storage space  ?

Have you tried a reset ?

The update is a red herring and not the cause of the need to sign in.

In the OPs other thread they changed the phone number stored, so for security some services will need to sign in. It looks like there's some sort of connection issue.

OP, turn off the phone.  On a computer log into the Apple account on the Web, check all the details are up to date. Logout of the Web. Turn phone back on.

    Hmm, that wasn't easy! ;);)
Googling 'how to log in on my PC' didn't help.
Logged into the icloud app (which I didn't know I had on my PC) which eventually sent me to
where all the info was correct

But, the red '1' is sadly still there!

Many thanks for trying to help though. :)

If all else fails make an appoint with the Genius Bar at an Apple Store

They will fix it free in a few minutes unless it has some damage

I am afraid that logging in on the iCloud app on a PC, is not the same as going to the Apple website and clicking log in.

As above ... I went on icloud which sent me to a website https://appleid.apple.com/
I logged in there and the details were correct.
I did try apple.com but that seems to be just for sales.
