Impounded car - special impound insurance?

The police will do a check through the MID, and if the insurer aren't aware it was in the pound when the policy was taken out, is there a risk of it being cancelled?

My past experience would be this. 

A previous broker I worked at had this more often then you would think happens. 

It will be in the assumptions when taking out the policy

if it was as easy as just buying a new policy impound insurance would not exist and be able to charge the large prices

until we hear from OP it is all opinions
