Student Bank Account Perks - Free Railcard

Santander offer a free 4 year railcard if you open up one of their student bank accounts.
It states that the student account gives a definite £1,500 0% overdraft in years one to three, provided you pay in £500+ every four months. You can also claim a free four-year 16-25 Railcard (worth £100)
If you don't pay in £500 a month every four months, does that just mean you may not get your 0% overdraft but you can still get the railcard? All we're interested in is the railcard to be honest. Can we open the account, get the railcard and just leave the account open and not use it, or even close it if closing the account has no bearing on the railcard once you have it?
Thanks
