Can't reclaim Student Loan overpayments for 2023/4???

The Student Loan Company had the form to reclaim previous years on their website but said we had to wait until the 6th April before any claim can be made against the previous tax year. I overpaid due to a lump sum of back pay but am still under the annual threshold and have been waiting months until April to claim it back. It now says we cannot reclaim this as it will be done automatically and should be done "by the end of April". The contact options have been removed however the phone number listed doesn't open until Monday.

Does anyone know how the rules have changed on this? I surely shouldn't have to wait almost a year to get back money I should never have had to pay in the first place? This was effortless before (and quick) by entering the details on the form and emailing it off.

It’s logical that you should have to wait until the end of the financial year, as until that point you and the slc won’t know if you are under the threshold for the year as a whole.

I’m interpreting waiting until 6 April because the previous tax year will have ended on 5 April ie the day before.

But I have had to wait for that financial year to end only to be told now (vaguely) to wait until it's done automatically at some point "later this year". I shouldn't have to wait nearly 12 calendar months to reclaim something which previously took a couple of weeks submitting a form.

I'll try and call them and report back. They've removed all other contact us options so hoping the phone line still works!

Apparently, it can now take "several months after the end of the tax year" to get the P60 details from HMRC before any refund can be claimed!
