Mystery Address Acquisition??

Hi all, hoping you can help.

I just logged into a credit report app and it asked to confirm my address, suggesting an old one, a new one, and MY FRIEND'S ONE!! Saying 'based on your last credit report'!

My friends address is the one I'm registered to with my GP, because I moved town but have a lot of chronic health issues that are partway through treatments. I have never used it for anything other than GP correspondence.

Do you have any idea why that would be showing up on my credit report? It doesn't seem like something that should be being checked. The only other thing I use it for is grocery orders sometimes, which does have a financial connection, but not for billing!

However since I'm there a lot I wonder if it just might flag something like repeat food orders?

Any insight appreciated! I certainly don't want to be repaying their kindness with marring their credit report!!

As far as I'm aware there's no link between the NHS and credit reports so I don't think that's the issue.

So that leaves the groceries.  If you are using a CC to order and have them delivered to your friend's house then likely that is why it's showing on your report.

I wouldn't be concerned about marring their credit report as a simple address shouldn't be an issue. There's a lot more interesting things on a report.  The only time addresses are relevant is if there are a LOT of people noted at a particular address which says a lot about the address - that it's a hostel or multiple occupancy place - and that in turn says something about the people that live there.  If this is just you and your friend I don't think there's anything to be concerned about.

Any data you supply to any 3rd party can be recorded and shared, as per the terms and conditions you would have agreed too when you put a little tick in the box that no one ever reads.

Its simply asking you to validate it, can`t see the issue here.

This seems perfectly reasonable to me.  The CRA has located some data that may link to the OP and may not link to the OP.  The OP is being asked to confirm the data.  A perfectly reasonable data validation step, or so it would seem to me.  If the data is correct, the OP can tick "yes" and if incorrect, tick "no".  Better that there is a data validation step than the CRA simply making the connection, whether correct or not.
  • Thanks all, it's not the being asked to affirm the correct address that concerns me so much as where they've acquired the address at all, since it's not linked with any of my finances, and I've definitely ordered groceries more times to my partner's address, which did not come up.

I was not aware of the NHS being consulted for credit checks, but it seems the most likely source. I'm not sure why it's being linked.
