Excel parking

Hi all.
Just parked for 15 mins in an excel car park. I went to the machine where loads of people were trying to pay but none of them were accepting cards. 2 people were trying to ring excel on the number provided but no one got an answer. We all decide to leave. I had to urgently leave as I had a hospital appointment. I've just rang excel (didn't give them any personal details), told them what had happened and the person who answered pretty much called me a liar about no one answering the phone, that the anpr will no doubt have already issued fines for the vehicles that left, and that I'll need to appeal the fine. I asked him why he couldn't just accept payment on the phone and he said it was too late. It's only been just over an hour since we left.
I can't afford a fine, I won't pay a fine. Any advice on what to do from here?

Wondering why you all drove past the camera to leave? Under those specific circumstances, why would a driver feel you had to let them have your exit data?
You won't get a fine. Excel can't fine anyone.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Don't worry, I've been to court last month against Excel, and won thanks to the phenomenal counsel from this forum. They and their "solicitors" ELMS are incompetent at every stage.
Follow the advice from the experts on this forum and you shouldn't pay a penny.
Read (and digest) the newbies thread. It'll give you an understanding of what's to come, and save you asking time consuming questions of the people that are voluntarily helping many others like yourself.1
