Santander Edge Question

Applied for a Santander Edge account early this morning, it seems they've done both soft and hard searches (soft affordability & hard credit) on me, is that normal for them & specifically for that account?.

Ive had a normal Santander account, when I applied for the edge they only a soft search ...
I don't have an overdraft ..
Did you have an existing account or applied for an overdraft ?

I didn't upgrade an existing account or anything.
I didn't ask them for anything else other than the account so no overdraft, loan or anything else.
Just woke up to a Credit Karma notification about Santander doing searches.0 -
Just checked my email in the same minute I got an email from Santander saying
Thank you for your recent current account application
"We've received your application and our underwriters are looking at it now"
I get an email from credit karma about the searches they doing on me

I don't remember that being an option, hope not don't need one, just want the Edge Current to get Edge Saver then max that out at 4K using funds from the Santander 5.2% Easy Access that I have.surreysaver said:Did you apply for an overdraft as well? I didn't. Could that be the reason?

Used the live chat on app, really awkward to send messages, kept timing out or whatever, anyway apparently a lot of people applying & they can't/won't give a timescale but feel free to check in on another day, keep an eye on email.0

Guessing it's due to that switch offer (ended now) &/or TopCashback doing the £25 offer? &/or everyone's 5.2 Easy Access rate going down?. 🤔😏🙄😁.
