No claims discount question

Hi,
Quick bit of background....
I've built up around 14 years of NCD on my policies with me as the main driver and my wife as the named driver.
I cycle to work and don't really use the car very often and we've come to realise it would probably be better for my wife (as she uses it daily for work) to take on the organisation of the car as it is really hers. She'd then be able to deal with the insurers direct when phoning them etc. At present only I can as I'm the main driver.
It would appear using the comparison sites that 9 years is the most I can claim.
I'm due to renew the car insurance soon and checked:
with me as the main driver
with my wife as the main driver.
Both quotes appear to be roughly the same price.

My questions are....
Are the two policies roughly the same because my NCD is being taken in to account?
After two years when the NCD will no longer be valid will the insurance price skyrocket?

I'm nervous about this as I don't want to lose the benefit of my NCD in light of the recent massive increase in the price of car insurance.
It doesn't appear to factor in when entering details for a quote, but I think the databases that the insurance companies refer to have details of what risk I am am, even as named driver.

So in your two quotes you are the policyholder but you are just changing who the main driver is?

Most insurers its the PH that brings the NCD and with a few its the Main driver. The comparison site cannot cope with this so will assume the declared NCD is for the relevant party and hence you are getting the 14/9 years NCD that is being counted in all cases.

If you are a good risk, then not necessarily, NCD used to be a 65-70% discount with most insurers giving a circa 30% discount for someone with no discount but an otherwise good risk (no claims, no convictions etc). These days things are more complex and discounts often smaller... makes sense seeing as over 90% of people have maximum NCD. A recent poster here stated they got a quote with max mcd and no mcd and difference was £5
