Morning,
I am looking for some help on an issue I'm having with an online retailer in regards to a car seat.
I am looking for some help on an issue I'm having with an online retailer in regards to a car seat.
I bought a car seat in July 2023, which developed a fault in October/November. The retailer sent a replacement car seat in January of this year.
I am currently without a car, and have only used the car seat on 2 or 3 occasions. Last week, I used the car seat and it seems to have developed the same fault - the isofix doesn't click in properly, with the feet becoming jammed under the plastic base making it impossible to get out of the car.

I contacted the retailer again, who have said they will organise a return for the car seat. Upon receipt of the car seat we can look at alternative car seats or they can provide a refund minus any usage charge. They will determine the usage charge based on the remaining lifespan of the car seat subtracted by the time the car seat has been used before encountering the issue.
This to me seems quite bizarre. I am quite happy to chose an alternative if they have one suitable.
Is this legal, and can they deduct a cost for usage when there is an issue that has developed with the car seat?

Deduction for usage based on the life of a product is the norm.
It's up to them whether they replace or refund.
What stage carseat was it? You've had it 9 months so if it's for a younger carseat this will be most of its lifespan.
Did you try it in a different car? Sometimes it's the car isofix that makes it difficult to remove.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
