Slightly left of field, you could buy a Cat B on Copart and get them to take out the engine for you. Might take awhile but the same engine is no doubt used in other models.1

Thanks, wish i'd found those forums a month ago. Nissan not interested because I'm outside of 3 years warranty (despite being under 60k mileage.) I also didn't get towed to a Nissan garage so they won't entertain me unless I pay to get car towed to them and pay for them to take a look to even discuss it with me. Seems a false economy when I've already paid for this at my local garage and could better spend the money towards getting the car running again or paying off the loanGer103 said:Contact Nissan , known fault on 1.3 engines lots of problems on the Nissan internet forums and Facebook groups, might get some help on them regarding your rights , good luck0 -
Nissan extend the warranty every time you get it serviced with them up to 8 years I think.0

I would be looking at this different, and obviously depends on the figures involved.Morricar said:My qashqai suffered engine failure ( thermostat housing unit split without warning.) A new engine is going to cost the same as the finance I have outstanding so feels like a bad investment.
Drawing a line and looking to get best price I can for salvage to try to pay off some of the loan that remains outstanding.
Prices vary on quotes I'm receiving via online searches (from 1k to almost 3k)- does anyone have good experience they can share or a company they recommend? Thanks
I would be looking at the value of a fully working car compared to its scrap value.
If you owe £5K and a scrap car is worth £3K then thats one way to look at it. However you original had a £10K car, that you're selling for £3K so you're £7,000 out of pocket.
However if a fully working 2019(?) car is worth £10,000 a scrap car is worth £3K and a good used engine can be fitted for £3K (which i think would be easily doable with a bit of checking around local mechanics). Then all you're out is £3,000.
Lets be honest, selling it for scrap, thats whats going to happen to it. It wont be broken for parts. Theres every chance you'll sell it to a scrap merchant and 3 months later you'll be sitting somewhere and it'll drive past you.
