E.ON Next Energy Supplier charging to leave!.

E.ON Next took over my last provider of gas & electric. I had no choice in the matter I was just notified that this took place.
I want to change from E.ON Next to another supplier but E.ON want to charge me £35 for each service they supply at the moment. My previous supplier didn't charge to leave (N-Power). What are my rights as I didn't ask for them to be my energy supplier, I was told I couldn't leave as the supply was already established to the property and couldn't be changed.
I didn't sign any new contract with them and I want to leave but don't want to pay them any money for doing so (£70). Has anyone had this issue and found a solution?
Thanks in advance.

You must have agreed to a fixed tariff. What tariff does your account say you are on? And when does it end?0

When E.on took over from your previous supplier you would have been placed on their Standard Variable Tariff (SVT) which has no exit penalties. Subsequently you must have signed up to a fixed tariff with exit penalties then forgotten you did this.Reed0

Call them to find out the reason0

Indeed, which would be confirmed if the OP told us what the name of the tariff they are on.Reed_Richards said:When E.on took over from your previous supplier you would have been placed on their Standard Variable Tariff (SVT) which has no exit penalties.
