Hello,
Any idea how much we should allow for bills monthly, gas electric water etc. for a small 2 bedroom terrace house (suffolk). Just an idea would be good.
Thanks,
K.

For two people in our small two-bed terrace, our monthly bills are:
Council tax: £120 (band C)
Gas: £29
Electricity: £25
Water: £30 (unmetered)
TV licence: £11.61
Contents insurance: £10
BT: £14 (incl calls)
Broadband: £18
We also spend around £150 per month on food, which is really quite a lot for 2 people, but we are foodies!0 -
Don't forget to use Quidco for quotes and cashback amounts, for your contents insurance.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Our figures are: 2 Adults in a largish 4 bed end of terrace
Council tax: £100 (band D)
Gas/Electricity: £83 (pay a monthly plan with Powergen) This way we overpay in the summer and the credit goes towards the larger winter bills.

TV licence: £11.75
House & Contents insurance: £31.29
BT: £15.50 (incl callswith BT)
Broadband: £25 (with Virgin)

We actually spend approx £300 a month on food, so if £150 a month is 'quite a lot'...
We're not 'foodies' but we do prefer quality rather than quantity. We go to a local bakery for fresh-baked bread rather than the industrial stuff from the supermarket. We get doorstep milk. We don't do take-aways, ready-meals or fast food.

Well, OK, by foodies I mean we like to cook a lot of varied dishes from scratch using fresh ingredients
We also like to buy from ethical/sustainable sources and local produce where possible. But we don't buy what we'd consider "bad value for money" produce, either - we look out for special offers and so on. All the same, we know that we could spend a lot less if we were to really tighten our belts.
