BG estimated reading looks imposssible?

Given the estimated reading was lower than your smart meter reading, if anything they were trying to charge you less!
I wouldn't worry anyway, the smart meter readings have over-ridden the estimate.0 -
If the price cap went up after that date though then it would be charging more?0
-
But your smart meter has provided actual readings on both 31 December and 1 January, so it's all moot.0

The erroneous Jan 1st reading is used on my bill though (price cap change)

The point I’m making is that the price cap increased January 1st 2024, and so charging me for more units
at a higher rate

Don't confuse incompetence with malign intent. When i was with BG (16/11/2020 to 09/08/2021) nearly every bill contained wierd estimated readings mid-bill followed by a correction. These days they explain the irrational errors thrown up by their computer as due to the change over from the old to the new system. In my view a feeble excuse. To be honest the inexplicable mistakes were present way before the change over started, and I've seen little evidence^^ things have improved after transition to the new system.I'd recommend waiting for and checking the next actual bill before worrying about system generated random interim on-line garbage data.(^^only from reading a multitude of posts here on MSE)0

The bill arrived today, hence myDoes this prove my theory?

This is working in your favour. If you ask them to update the 1st Jan meter reading, then they will bill more units at the 27.08 rate instead of the 25.81 rate0
