Hi all,
My girlfriend and I bought a flat a couple of years ago and about 18 months ago some lads moved in above us, apparently renting on a 6 month lease....
Anyway - they're very noisy and it's becoming unbearable! I have been up there countless times and *asked* (politely!) them to quieten down and it's falling on deaf ears. We live in a converted mill building and the floors are ~1m thick so only the loudest of bangs should get through - not sure what they're doing up there but we can hear their music and bangs to compliment.
What do you suggest I do about it? As the flats are all leasehold, I'm considering writing a letter to the estate managers and asking them to intervene. I've spoken to the people above's landlord before and now he's ignoring me as I think I've asked him to speak to them a few too many times!
I'd be very grateful for any help on this as I'm unsure what is likely to work!
Cheers

I would firstly try a letter to the estate manager, if you get nowhere with that, try pollution control in Environmental Health. They will take you through a process. If they get to the point of testing and its proved it is excessive noise, then they will serve notices on them etc.
Good luck
Life's way too short!

Thanks!
Is bass an excessive noise? Problem is, being French-Africans, they enjoy their rythmic, bassy music and this is the thing we hear the most. I'm not sure this can be classed as noise!0 -

Thump! thump! thump! sometimes that can be the worst noise, contact the Environmental Health and let them decide.0 -
Just 'phoned them - apparently they don't have anyone on shift until 8 tomorrow morning, and then they're only working until 2!!!
Makes you wonder.
Cheers for the help chaps!0
