Exotic Meters - Still a problem in 2024

I have inherited an "Exotic Meter" with 4 energy readings in a flat I have purchased 3 years ago.  I was with EDF and was moved to OVO automatically in September of last year.  I have multiple issues and don't seem to be able to resolve in 3 years:

- I no longer require an exotic meter as I took out the storage heaters in the property so only actually need a single reading meter. Both EDF & OVO have refused to change this to a standard meter

- I would be happy to move to a smart meter and have requested regularly over the last 3 years and have been told every time this is impossible and they are unable to upgrade but will contact me when they can do this.  Obviously this has not happened in 3 years

- Lastly because I have the exotic meter I cannot actually switch energy companies and am trapped because the likes of British Gas will not even take on customers with an exotic meter.

Please can anyone advise how I can resolve this?

Many Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
Not quite sure what an 'Exotic Meter'  is but Ovo are an unhelpful company because they refuse to bill a two-rate Economy 7 meter at single rate.  Most other companies will happily do this without needing a meter change.
However, if you have THTC or something with two or even three meters and Ovo won't budge, then raise a formal written complaint and go to the ombudsman upon receipt of a deadlock letter or after eight weeks if they don't send one.
BTW, I hope you're not using panel heaters (or any room heating that uses daytime electricity) in the widespread but completely mistaken belief that they are modern and more efficient.  Virtually nothing else is more expensive. 😱
