Life Insurance requirement when buying a house?

    Thanks. You've answered the question. 

    We were 100% told we had to have it as in can't buy the house without it. 

    Not particularly bothered if this was accurate or not as personally I'd rather have it than not as the survivor would be knackered if one of us died. 

    More asking for my sisters situation as they were told they didn't need it & so didn't get it, although one would also be knackered should the other one die, plus they have a child in the equation also whereas we don't.

    But did anybody give them advice about whether or not it would be a good idea for them?

    Whatever you were told at the time I know of two people who have/are benefitting from critical illness cover. I always refused life insurance as did not have dependents.

    Discovered the other day that although retired, 76, grown up kids, in addition on my death to main pension going part to wife from my 2nd ever job (started 1973..…) that job cover still coughs up about £1k life insurance.  Weird.
