Hi, I am sure that I am due refunds for over paying student loan repayments in several years between 2002 and 2024.  I have had an erratic working life sometimes in full time work, sometimes part-time, on benefits, in short contracted or agency work etc etc.  It is a nightmare finding any tax records to verify what my earnings actually were for each year.  Does anyone have any advice on how I can get my end of your tax records going back so far?

The rules are the you can only get a refund if your total earnings for any tax year are below the threshold. With uneven earnings it could well be that in individual months you made a student loan repayment, but as your total income for the year was above the threshold you aren’t entitled to a refund.

I’ll ask the forum team to move this thread to the student board, many similar questions on there.

Hi,  I do realise that is the situation but thankyou for commenting.  My query is more about checking what my earnings were during all the years because I know for sure there are several years when I had periods of unemployment and I also know that in general I have never earnt much above the threshold for any great length of time.  What I want to find is a tax record of some sort covering the period 2002 - around 2018.

Making a Data Subject Access Request to HMRC using the form below will give you what you need. The repayment threshold was £10,000 up to April 2005, then £15,000 up to April 2012 and has increased each year since.
