Buildings Insurance - Puzzled as to what's included in "Other Rooms"

First time I've used Compare the Market. I'd welcome informed knowledge so I can best comply with their guidelines on what goes into the 4 areas listed under Buildings. I'm OK with bedrooms, and bathrooms, and living rooms looks straightforward:- Include any reception rooms such as lounges, dining rooms and sitting rooms.

When I come to Other Rooms I'm a bit stumped:- Include basement or storage area, garages attached to your property and your loft.

Exclude kitchens and utility rooms (these will be included), conservatories or rooms not attached to your property.

My Other Rooms at present consists only of a 6' x 8' cloakroom/study, next to the hall, with desk and printer. I haven't got a basement, storage area, or attached garage, but do I really have to declare a bog-standard loft (not converted, just with rolls of insulation) Most every detached house has such a loft I'd have thought, and they could treat it like they do a kitchen and just include it in cover without itemising. On the other hand, conservatories? We have a conservatory, attached to the rear, with access to living room & kitchen, and secured patio doors. I'd have expected it to be classed as a living room, but if it were to be a Living Room - "any reception rooms such as lounges, dining rooms and sitting rooms." I'd have expected a conservatory to be mentioned under that heading? My wife reads it to mean that if your conservatory is not attached, or any other room is not attached, they should be excluded.

I'm tempted to add conservatory to my living rooms, but would welcome advice.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

I would use a different comparison site.  What they are asking is probably more than any given insurer needs, and trying to accommodate all.
  • Found exactly the same issue with Compare the market, it is badly worded. We added the conservatory under ‘other rooms’ just in case. Interestingly it made no difference at all to the quotes.

The problem with aggregators is that they have to ask all the questions with all the options that all the medium to large companies want asked (or a decent cohort of small providers). Its deemed acceptable to customers because you fill in an extra long form once and get 30+ prices back whereas were a single insurer to do it they'd find a lot of people abandon the process half way through.

The likelihood is that it would have made a difference to at least 1 provider but it may be one that had already decided not to quote for some other reason hence not spotting their price change
