Has anyone got 2 different tariffs on 2 consumer units?

Hi, I am coming to the end of a long fixed rate tariff. I am trying to find if it is possible to get a second consumer unit fitted and have 2 different domestic tariffs:
1: Fixed Rate (Dual Fuel)
2: EV Tariff for cheap car charging
The "Support" staff at EDF do not understand the question and cannot tell me.
Octopus and other suppliers have on FAQs that do not imagine the above

I think it could be possible break even on the cost of the installation after 2 years of savings if I can do the above.

Does your break-even calculation include paying three standing charges?0

You would need a separate meter for that as well as the consumer unit - from an energy company perspective what you're asking for is a second supply and all that goes with it. I expect that's where the confusion lies. It's not uncommon to have two accounts associated with a single property, for example where a garage is remote from the house and it's not practical to share the supply or where a single dwelling is split into two. So it should be possible, but I'm not aware of a cheap way of doing it. Best thing to do is to get a quote from an electrician who can tell you what's involved.

It may be easier to explain what you want to achieve rather than jumping to what you believe to be the technical solution (because two consumer units may not be what you actually need).

The distant garage example is generally a 2 supplies from grid type example though. And that gets expensive ( DNO charges in the four figures not uncommon from the few I have seen quoted here.)Not just 2 meters split by a normal electrician like you might do as a landlord for accurate billing in a HMO conversion off of one incoming supply. What about the bolt on EV deals - e.g. like Ovo - that said could be bolted on to any of their tariffs - you just gewt the EV rate on the EV charge discount as a rebate on your bill.7p kWh on any other tariff with the right car or charger kit.(7p unless force timing off of their off peak scheduling).Maybe others do similar deals ?1

We looked at putting power to our garage which would have to be done by a separate supply and quotes were about £4,000 just for the mains bit and then the consumer unit, internal wiring on top of that. Add to that the additional standing charge and a little surprised you think payback is 2 years -v- choosing a single supply.

So the advice from Scot_39 led me to OVO. Their fixed rate 2 year plan with the bolt-on EV tariff seems a very good , competitive solution and negates any additional work to facilitate a second meter. However, it does require the dreaded "Smart"meter.
I am getting my Smart meter fitted next month and have a few months until my correct fix expires.
As I have seen press articles suggesting that the price cap is predicted to drop again in July, I will re-price then.
(I am assuming that the reduced price cap will allow more competitive pricing for fixes too).
One thing I do not like about OVO: their regular energy mix is pretty dirty as they rely mostly on natural gas and do not use nuclear. The fix for this is to pay an additional £10 pcm to go for all renewable and I will probably go with that.
Thanks again Scot_39 and everyone else.2 -

If it makes you feel better then go for it but if you want to give me the £10 a month then both of us will feel better and it won't make any difference to the environment. 😀
