Which car battery is compatible. My gears are gone too

Hi guys

My car has been left for a year without starting. Battery is completely flat .. I can jump start it with another car. Which works. But the car doesn't hold any battery when I turn the egnition off after a while.

Problem is that I can't drive as the gear has seized only goes up and down . Doesn't move to the sides... so basically gear 2 and 4 works.

Someone Said it could be down to the battery as well.

The car is old. I was considering scrapping it as it won't be worth repairing it.

Which compatible batteries can I buy from ebay as a second hand. Just to check it?

Car is audi a3 08 plate.. 1.6 petrol special addition.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Most battery suppliers will let you enter you car details for the battery, eg.

The gear selection won't have anything to do with the battery. If it was driving ok when parked up, I doubt there's much wrong with it now, maybe a seized gear linkage or similar.

it would definitely be worth getting it diagnosed properly before scrapping it.

Definitely have it checked before just blindly scrapping it. If it's been left outside, the gear selection thing might just be something stuck in the linkage, or it seized up as mentioned above.

I wouldn't bother with a second hand battery, though the one you have might respond to being charged slowly over a period of a couple of days - jump starting the car and then running it for a few minutes isn't going to charge it enough to start the car the next day. If you know someone with a battery charger that's worth a go.
