Retrieving Music from old iPod onto, say, USB / Laptop

Plugged old ipod into the old laptop this morning & with a lot of You Tube help managed to raise a connection! So that I can maybe retrieve some of our beloved music from it?
Our old CDs & LPs have sadly long since been binned.
Problem is I stored all my old CDs/LPs in a playlist - all 1400 tunes!
All songs on iPod are in AAC format - not MP3 ?
They are in my Playlist on itunes, but not in Library which limits the action I can take. I guess this is because I originally added them by using my own CDs etc & not directly downloading from Apple.
Any suggestions how can I get these onto, say, a USB (or whatever) - I use android not Apple - so I can play them on a new device ? (I dont want them clogging up space on my phone)
Simple suggestions please I'm no great techie.
(ps: I have a query running elsewhere about suggestions for a new home sound system https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6517286/need-to-update-hi-fi-sound-system/p1)

AAC is a std format. You just need to transfer the files to your PC.
You could then convert them to MP3 if you wanted, but AAC is a better format.Life in the slow lane1 -

...and where do I put them on the laptop - is there a specific App ? - or do I just list them all in a folder (what format?)

If you can see the iPod in File Explorer, then you'll need to enable display of hidden files and directories after which look for directory iPod_Control/Music. However you'll find all the music file are randomly named in directories as the iPod maintains a list of the track names to match to the files.

I am sooo pleased. I thought I'd lost all my precious LPs & CDs for ever
(It's even retained the artwork - I'd downloaded all the covers)0 -
You can use mp3tag to rename them from random apple letters and numbers to plain English (convert > tag to filename)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)
