    Wow 10k for a car at 17.

My first car was £900 was still going strong 3 years later.

There is no need to spend that much on a car and the insurance is likely to be extortionate as will the excess (or if its not the cost will be more) dashcam discount will be minimal if at all.

I would suggest he lower his standards and get a slightly older vehicles which is cheaper

You can get some very good and reliable cars for less

Extended warranties are a complete waste of money, as everything likely to fail is excluded. 45k miles is nothing: the car is still in it's 3 year manufacturer's warranty?
EW's are just marketing puff, and a lovely source of extra profit for the hefty commission they earn the dealer.
Most extended warranties, yes. There sre dome exceptions - BMW Insured Warranty for example includes full wear and tear cover up to 100k miles, and beyond for engine and gearbox only.

So much judgement on the value. None of you know the OP's reason for spending that much.

We bought our daughter an £8k car that was still in manufacturers warranty as her first car (as a learner). It was in the full expectation that she would be keeping it for a few years and going back and forth to University on a regular basis so something reliable was required.

No way would we have bought a £1k banger for this purpose.

Don’t buy a French car unless you have budgeted for big repair bills.

In general, French cars are not the most reliable......(there are no French cars in the recent Which top 20 most reliable cars up to 5 ears old survey...)
