Hi all, I've seen Michael Gove is doubling the council tax for second home owners, does this affect people who rent theirs out to tenants, if so how would that work?. Thanks Arnie.

Nothing to do with this forum, better to ask on the Housing or Cutting Tax board. However, in most circumstances the tenants will be responsible for Council Tax at the property they occupy.

Not quite accurate information. He is giving local councils the power to do that which isn’t entirely the same thing.Tenants are responsible for paying their own council tax. Any second home changes will not apply to rental properties because they aren’t second homes that you live in for some of the time.
More accurate details here.

Interesting question, I think you only start worrying if the house is empty for a while? I can see loads of councils jumping on this one though.richardarnold said:Hi all, I've seen Michael Gove is doubling the council tax for second home owners, does this affect people who rent theirs out to tenants, if so how would that work?.
