New Lenses for Old Frames

Some opticians will fit new lenses in to old frames but you normally have to pay an additional reglazing fee. I would take the frames to an optician and ask them.Specsavers do do it, and there are other online companies that will also reglaze

But it can work out more expensive.1 -
I did ask this question to an optician a few years ago, and was advised that it was possible but they could not guarantee that the frame would not be damaged in the process. Probably just covering their backs.1

I've done this as I like my frames, but it's usually not cheaper to do this and there is a risk the frames will break.1

Hi,
I recenly got my eyes tested at Specsavers & they were not keen for me to use my own frames. I was a bit disappointed as they were less than 2 years old & in good condition. However I came across glassesoutlet.co.uk who were happy to supply new lenses into my current frames. They stated that if they broke durimg the process that was at downside risk & they could not compensate. Anyway, It worked out well & I got my new lenses at a good price!

Specsavers will use their own frames, but not frames provided by another opticians or bought online. Best course of action would be to find a local optical lab and visit with frames in one hand & prescription in the other.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I’ve had glasses reglazed before when the frames have been fine. I have always used independent glasses shops who don’t do their own eye tests. I am in the south, if you are nearby I could share the shops I have used if helpful.0

I turned 60 last month and was told I now get 20% off my glasses. After an eye test yesterday I had gone to the optiticians with 5 pairs of old glasses (designer frames) and 1 pair of old verifocal sunglasses, all of which were purchased at Specsavers in the past. Two of these had barely been worn and were in great condition. However, Specsavers told me that if they were to reglaze 3 pairs (1 verifocal, 1 verifolcal sunglasses and one occupational (computer) glasses) it would cost me £650 because the discounts only apply to new glasses. However if I purchased new ones from them I could have all 3 pairs at £440. I was disappointed but purchased new ones which were no match to the quality of my old ones.

I recently used Lensology, they weren't cheapy-cheap but still very good value. They use the lenses already in your glasses to make sure they get the optical centre right (or if they are new-to-you frames, a photo to see where your eyes sit in them).
My prescription is above -6 which bumps up the price anywhere due to needing thinning for the weight, and it means the optical centre really needs to be bang on, and the lenses they put in were perfect.
