Pet Transportation Companies- Am I Being Over Charged?

Options
Hello,

I'm looking for advice on how to save money taking my pet from the UK to EU. Has anyone recently moved a pet to the EU?

I have a pet tortoise that I am planning to move to Finland. I have had quotes from Pet Transportation companies, ranging around £1000-£5000.

I'm wondering how to avoid these heavy costs? Can I save if I do some of the paper work myself? Or are these the general unavoidable costs of moving pets abroad? Any advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks C

From the UK, that's likely to be 8 days of driving (at £200+/day rate), 7 nights of accommodation (from about £25/night) and probably an average of 4000 miles of fuel/maintenance (at 45p/mile).

I work that out at £3600, without considering any other costs that may be faced.

It may be worth seeing if Finnair carry pets (as far as I'm aware BA no longer do) as this is likely to be far cheaper.
