Being time consuming isn't the issue. We plan to do it in the summer when the evenings are light and don't mind if we only get one done a day. If it costs around £800 to get them fitted then it would be worth us seroiusly considering this as an option.
Thanks spooky25, I will do some research on the net. I also hadn;t thought about approaching window companies re wrong size frame, that's an excellent idea.
Mind you HugoSP's comments on 1930's steel windows forming part of the lintel is worrying. I believe our windows might fall into that category. Would there be anyway of finding out if this is the case? Our property is an ex-council house so my local authority might be able to tell me, do you think? If so would department?0
