Hi I had ppi payouts in August and September 2019 and paid tax on these
I was a basic rate tax payer l, but I started doing Airbnb in June 2019 and completed a self assessment-tax return for that in 2020. I didn’t add my PPA pay outs to that return, just my rental income and main income.
Can I use form R40 to claim tax back or do I do it a different way.
or am I likely to end up paying more tax by claiming?!

An R40 cannot be used by someone who has completed (or needs to complete) a tax return for that year.

If you have filed an incorrect return then you will need to make a claim for overpayment relief as the time limit for amending a 2019-20 return has now ended.

The time limit for making such a claim is 05-04-2024 so you haven't got long to get the details to HMRC 😳.

There are very specific things you have to do, look at the Write to HMRC and What to Include sections here,
