Change of executor address

Options
Can someone please confirm if I need to raise a Codicil to my will if the Executor's address on my will has changed? I guess when they come to apply for probate they will of course complete using their current contact details. Thanks.

No, there's no need to update a Will just because people's addresses have changed (otherwise you'd be doing it all the time!).

My understanding is that the address is to help identification, i.e. it's the Joe Bloggs who lived at High street Sometown at the date of signing, not some other Joe Bloggs. Consequently you don't need a formal codicil when they move, but it may be helpful to keep a note of the new address with the will as it will make it easier to find them.

No, when my husband and I wrote mirror Wills shortly before we married we named each other as executors and also named back-up executors in the event that we died at the same time or the survivor was unwilling or unable to act. We moved several times since the Wills were written as did the back-up executors. It didn't cause any problems when applying for probate. My name had also changed when we married and that didn't cause any problems either. I just had to tick a box and explain why my name differed from the Will. It probably helped that we wrote our Wills in contemplation of marriage and I was named on his death certificate as the surviving spouse. I half expected the Probate office to ask for a copy of our marriage certificate, but they didn't they either didn't need to, or cross-checked other government records to confirm things.

Thanks everyone, really appreciate that. I thought that might be the case but best to check. Thanks again.
