Freemans & Co. starts life in a terraced house in the London suburb of Clapham. Its founders are A.C. and S.C. Rampton, W.E. Jones and H.A. Freeman. It employs just 12 staff, and a 'Celebrated Freemans made-to-measure suit' costs less than 30/- (£1.10 in today's money).

Praise for a company to last that long,
Vent for not understanding understanding £sd to decimel conversion nor what “ in today’s money” means.
 Warning as to whether this “ credit based retailer”  can calculate interest if can’t do above.

Freemans were very big in the mail order catalogue business from at least the 1950s. In the early1970s they moved to a huge new distribution depot in Peterborough. Like virtually all its competitors at that time, the items in the glossy multi page catalogue were available at interest free credit over 20 weeks (or longer for more expensive items)
